We hope that it was a great weekend of airsoft for everyone, and while most of the AA Crew were otherwise engaged with games, ranges, and workshops we thought it was high time to have a bit of an “armoury tidy” at AAHQ, so a whole load of our test AEGs and GBBs got pulled out of their cases for some long overdue TLC!

One of the things we truly love about this particular job is that all of our “armoury” platforms bring back memories of games that we’ve played over the years, and it certainly struck us that we haven’t played a WWII-themed game for some considerable time!

And, if truth be told, some of the AEGs are beginning, after many years use and abuse, to look a little careworn… which always puts us in mind of “new shiny things”! So, something a bit different for this Monday morning…

One of the models that is in need of replacement is our old CYMA Thompson; although this has seen many a battle and been well-loved we’re thinking it may be time to retire it with high honours to the display wall and replace it with something a little more up to date!

Thankfully the guys at iWholesales let us know that they’ve just had a new arrival of a few of the ARES THOMPSON M1A1 EBB, and we know that with a little love in the right places this can be a killer AEG!

Much like its real life counterpart all the selector switches and magazine releases are all located in the correct position. The AEG can also be disassembled easily by separating the stock from the body and removing the magazine. This allows the gun to take up much less space during travel.

ARES uses the M1A1 to feature its new battery connector design too; the AEG’s stock features two connection points that connect with the receiver towards the rear. Once you have connected the battery within the stock to its standard small Tamyia connector, you can then simply install the stock back to the receiver to power up your AEG. The M1A1 also features ARES‘ tried and true E.F.C.S. fire control system.

Not only this, but you get REAL WOOD… yes, you do, in the shape of some lovely Italian walnut hardwood furniture; no need to go scurrying about looking for wood kits (as we had to for the old CYMA back in the day) as the ARES already has it in place for that extra-realistic feel!

This is by no means a cheap AEG, but with everything going for it, it’s most certainly a model that we will seriously consider as it will probably end up being a “forever gun” for us, and it could well be for you too!
