Back in ISSUE 160 we had the pleasure of introducing the GEN I R15 FREYA™ from DELTA ARMORY (DA), and Bill took a long, hard look at where this unique AEG replica has come from, and what it took to bring it successfully to market; at the time of writing the guys at DA told us that there would be a model coming to us to test, but that they were already working on the GEN II…
So, we are biding our time for the GEN II models to drop, and it appears that “the time is now” as they’re now appearing as available to order with most good retailers throughout Europe!
To recap, the R15 FREYA’s are licensed airsoft replicas of real guns made by Grandpower, and although they are obviously inspired by the mighty AR, they differ mainly in the modern design of the platform body, which was created in Slovakia.
Delta Armory has added to the FREYA series their latest Eagle ETU opto-magnetic-processor unit unit, which ensures fast trigger response while making the platform ready for use with 11.1 LiPo batteries. The Eagle ETU unit provides not only trigger sensitivity adjustment via the processor unit but also trigger travel length via an adjustable screw located directly in the trigger guard. The ETU monitors the health of the battery in the event of an undercharge or overcharge it can shut down to protect the battery, this is indicated by an audible alert. At the same time, the processor also has an Active Brake feature.
The R15’s are full metal construction, and the handguard is M-LOK with an interesting, modern design. The length of the handguard varies by exact variant, but what we’ve shown in our image today is the mid-length 10″ version which is ideal for both woodland and CQB games alike, a real “jack of all trades”!
The internals are classic DA as we’ve come to expect, such as an SHS piston with full metal gearing, rotary hop-up chamber, and 6.03mm precision barrel as standard. The GEN II FREYA also benefits from the DA quick-change QRS GEN II spring, so you can change the spring without disassembling the AEG, and also quickly change the QRS motor.
There’s a lot more going on straight away with the GEN II FREYA, that much is obvious, and we’re REALLY looking forward to getting one of these unique AEGs on the range soon… be sure to keep an eye out for our evaluation in due course!
